Treatment For OCD

What is it?

What is OCD?

Obsessive-compulsive disorder, or OCD, is a debilitating condition that can greatly reduce your quality of life.

Obsessions are intrusive thoughts that raise your anxiety.

Compulsions are behaviors or rituals performed to control the anxiety created by the obsessive thoughts.

When these two come together, a vicious cycle occurs that feeds on itself and can make your life miserable.

The psychologists at Straight Up Treatment are extremely knowledgeable about OCD. We have worked with all types of OCD including:

Harm OCD – Thoughts that you may harm yourself or others.

Contamination OCD – Fear of dirt, germs or being “unclean.”

Scrupulosity OCD – Fear of being immoral or sinful.

Counting and Ordering OCD – The belief that certain numbers or order of things have special significance.

Repeating and Sequencing – The need to repeat things over and over, or do things in a certain sequence.

HOCD – Thoughts around one’s sexual orientation or gender,

Pure O – Thoughts about one’s identity, the nature of reality, or other “deep” questions.

If you are suffering from one of the above, then Straight Up Treatment can help.

How is OCD treated?

Straight Up Treatment treats OCD with the only thing proven to work – namely Exposure and Response Prevention, or ERP.

In ERP, we gradually expose you to the thing you are afraid of, and then change your response to it. In time, this breaks the vicious cycle and to a decrease in obsessive thoughts.

Straight Up Treatment are expert practitioners of ERP, and have extensive experience working with both adults and children.

You can read more about Exposure and Response Prevention here.

When should I seek support?

OCD becomes problematic when it effects your life in a negative way, whether it be at work, at home, at school, or in your relationships.

If OCD is holding you back in some way and interfering with you achieving your goals, then you may want to get some help in how to manage it.
