ADHD Treatment in Los Angeles

A brain-based approach to help adults and teens better understand ADHD and build skills for focus, follow-through, and emotional balance. Online and in-person ADHD therapy, serving Los Angeles and surrounding areas.

You're not lazy, and you don’t need to be fixed

You’ve probably heard (or thought) some version of “you’d be fine if you just tried harder.” So you tried harder. You bought the planner, set the alarms, made the list, and lost the list. But as it turns out, that was never the problem. Your brain runs on a different operating system, and nobody handed you the manual.

You might be good at covering for it; so good, in fact, that people assume it’s easy for you. To everyone else, you look capable and put together/ But behind closed doors, you’re exhausted from working twice as hard to land in the same place as everyone else.

With ADHD treatment in Los Angeles, we can help you understand how your brain works and build a life that fits it.

What Does ADHD Look Like?

Most people picture a kid who can’t sit still. That version is real, and it’s a small piece of what ADHD does. Plenty of adults go decades without a diagnosis, because their version looked like anxiety, perfectionism, or “being a bit scattered.”

Our therapists have experience working with ADHD across a range of presentations, including:

Losing focus, losing things, and losing track of time, without any of the visible restlessness.

Constant motion, blurting things out, and a body that won’t settle even when your mind wants to.

A mix of both; scattered and restless in the same hour.

Often missed in childhood, particularly in women and high achievers who learned to compensate.

A brain that struggles to focus, plus a mind that worries about every consequence of that.

Impulsivity and compulsions in the same person, which can pull in opposite directions and complicate treatment for both.

Sensory sensitivities, social fatigue, and a need for routine alongside the distractibility and impulsivity.

When Does It Make Sense To Get Support For ADHD?

If focus, follow-through, time, or emotional reactivity are making daily life harder than it needs to be, it may be time to look closer. At Straight Up Treatment, ADHD treatment starts with a psychodiagnostic assessment so we can get clear on what’s actually going on. From there, we build a treatment plan around your brain, including executive function skills, nervous system training, and the tools that make the most sense for you.

SIGNS YOU OR YOUR TEEN MAY BENEFIT FROM ADHD TREATMENT:

ADHD Doesn’t Grow Out Of You, But It Does Change Shape

Adults learn to cover for it. Teens get labelled for it. Underneath, it’s the same brain doing the same thing. At Straight Up Treatment, we work with ADHD using psychodiagnostic assessments, CBT, ACT, DBT skills, and HRV biofeedback, and we shape the approach around who’s sitting in front of us.

If you have ADHD, the word “routine” might make you want to run for the hills. You’ve tried to build one more times than you can count, and every time it falls apart, you take it personally. If it feels like your brain is fighting the very structure you’re trying to give it, you’re not imagining that. You’re probably getting most things done, but it’s costing you late nights, a low hum of dread, and a lot of self-criticism nobody else sees. Maybe you’ve been treated for anxiety before, and it never explained why sending one email can take a whole afternoon. The more you understand how your ADHD brain works, the easier it gets to work with it instead of against it. ADHD therapy will help you figure out what’s ADHD, what’s anxiety, and what’s the burnout of hiding both, then building tools that fit the brain you have.

Being a teenager already asks for more organization than most brains have ready. Add ADHD, and you get a kid who can talk for an hour about the thing they love and can’t get through one page of homework. They lose the permission slip, then blow up when you ask about it. They hear lazy, careless, or dramatic when they’re working twice as hard as everyone around them just to keep up. ADHD therapy for teens gives them a name for what’s going on, skills they can use without a parent standing over them, and enough say in the plan that it feels like theirs, not one more thing being done to them.

Let’s work with your brain.

Our Approach

How ADHD Treatment Works

This might be your first time exploring ADHD, or you might have spent years wondering if it explains why things feel harder than they should. Either way, we’ll make the process clear and supportive.

The goal of ADHD treatment here is to help you understand how your brain works, so we can personalize your therapy and give you tools that fit your life.

Getting To Know You

First, we get specific. ADHD can look a lot like anxiety, OCD, autism, stress, or a combination of a few different things. Treatment starts with a psychodiagnostic assessment led by Dr. Christine so we can look at your history, attention, executive functioning, impulsivity, and how these patterns actually show up in your life.

Getting Clear

We use that information to figure out what’s ADHD, what might be something else, and what needs our attention first. Testing can include self-report, input from parents or other people who know you well, and performance-based testing depending on your age and needs. The point isn’t just to hand you a diagnosis. It’s to give us a clearer map for what comes next.

Building Your Plan

Then we build treatment around what your brain actually needs. That might mean CBT adapted for ADHD, executive function work for planning and follow-through, ACT or DBT skills for the emotional side of things, or HRV biofeedback to help with regulation and focus. For teens, we may also work with parents or coordinate with schools. If medication is part of your plan, we work alongside your prescriber so everyone is working from the same picture.

Let's do this!

What You Can Expect From ADHD Treatment

With specialized ADHD therapy, many people find they can:

ADHD therapy gives you the answers, the tools, and the practice to run your brain the way it was built to run.

Questions About ADHD Treatment

They overlap constantly, and plenty of people have both. Anxiety pulls your attention into the future: what could go wrong, what you might have missed, how to avoid it. ADHD pulls your attention everywhere at once: a sound, a thought, a feeling, the thing you just remembered. One brain is scanning for threat. The other is chasing stimulation. The tricky part is that years of undiagnosed ADHD create anxiety on their own. Missing enough deadlines will make anyone nervous. We sort this out at the start, because a plan built for anxiety won’t fix an attention problem, and the reverse is true too.

Yes, and it matters, because the treatments differ, but the conditions often show up together. OCD involves intrusive thoughts and the rituals you do to make them go away. ADHD involves attention that won’t stay where you put it. Autism involves differences in sensory processing, social communication, and a need for predictability. Someone can have all three, and the picture changes what we prioritize. Our clinicians treat ADHD, OCD, anxiety, and autism every week, so we’re used to untangling them rather than guessing.

Not always. Many people start therapy first, and the assessment question comes up once we know each other. A formal assessment makes sense when you need documentation for school or work accommodations, when the picture is unclear, or when you want a definitive answer before you commit to a plan. We’ll tell you straight up whether we think it’s worth it for you.

Yes, and this comes up constantly with adults, particularly those who were bright enough, or had enough support around them, to compensate for years. ADHD doesn’t always look like failing out of school or getting fired. It often looks like working twice as hard as everyone else for the same result, staying up until 2 a.m. to finish something you had weeks to do, or feeling like you’re one bad week away from everything falling apart. A lot of the adults we see are high-functioning on paper and exhausted in reality. That’s why assessment looks at effort and impact, not just outcomes.

ADHD assessment at Straight Up Treatment is led by Dr. Christine Izquierdo and ranges from $1,500 to $2,500, depending on the depth of evaluation needed. We look at your history going back to childhood, how you’re functioning now, and how attention, executive functioning, impulsivity, and processing show up across different parts of your life. Testing may include self-report questionnaires, input from parents, teachers, or other people who know you well, and performance-based testing for things like memory, processing speed, and executive functioning.

We’re also looking at the bigger picture, because ADHD doesn’t always travel alone. Anxiety, OCD, autism, depression, and other factors can change both the diagnosis and what treatment should look like. You’ll leave with a detailed report and clear recommendations you can use for treatment, school or workplace accommodations, or simply to finally understand what’s been going on.

Absolutely. Medication can be genuinely helpful for some people, but it’s one tool, not a requirement. A lot of our clients want to see what they can change through therapy, executive function work, nervous system regulation, and lifestyle support, either before considering medication or alongside it.

CBT can help you build planning, organization, and follow-through skills that actually work with an ADHD brain. HRV biofeedback helps train your nervous system to regulate and refocus. Sleep, movement, nutrition, and structure matter too. As a certified integrative mental health provider, Dr. Christine can also discuss non-prescription supplement options when appropriate.

And if medication is part of your treatment plan, we’ll work alongside your prescriber rather than treating therapy and medication like an either/or decision.

HRV stands for heart rate variability, the tiny changes in timing between each heartbeat. It’s one of the clearest windows into how your nervous system handles stress and recovers from it. In HRV biofeedback, you watch your own nervous system respond in real time and learn to shift it with breath and attention. For ADHD, that means practicing the exact skill that’s hardest: settling a racing system enough to focus. Over time, that shift starts to happen faster, with less effort, and without anyone prompting you.

We can! Teens don’t normally walk in eager, particularly if they’ve been told therapy is for “fixing” them. We start with what matters to them, not a list of what’s wrong, and we give them enough say in the plan that it feels like theirs. Alongside that, we work with you as the parent on how to set limits without the daily fight, how to respond to big emotions without escalating them, and how to support routines without becoming the enforcer. When the pressure at home comes down, most teens get more willing to do their own work.

Length depends on what we’re treating and how much of it is ADHD versus anxiety, OCD, or autism. Many clients notice a difference in the first several weeks, particularly once the skills start showing up between sessions. Typical outpatient timeline: once-weekly sessions, with early skill gains in the first six to eight weeks and continued work over several months. For clients who need faster change, or who are stepping down from a higher level of care, our accelerated program condenses roughly four months of weekly therapy into four to six weeks.

Session fees at Straight Up Treatment range from $185 to $325, depending on the clinician you see and the type of session. We’re an out-of-network practice, and we provide monthly superbills you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Our client coordinator can walk you through all of it before you book.
